Hello,
My yearly bill is coming due for my browser and I 'm aware that some browsers cost about half of what I pay. Do the cheaper browser companies give you less service or is it just a competition thing?
Thanks

I assume you are talking about your dial up ISP, which is erols from your email address.

Most dial up ISPs (Internet Service Providers) are the same, except when it comes to tech support and the amount of busy signals you get when you try and connect. If you can spring for it, my advice is one of the following.

A) Go on a month to month with erols and set up a second dialup internet connection (What OS are you using?) with one of the cheapies. Try the new one for a month or so to see how many busy signals you get. If you like the new one, then cancel erols and get a yearly plan with the new one. This will also give you time to get all the people that email you used to the new address, while still getting mail at the erols address. If you do not like it, you still have the erols account to fall back on when you cancel the new one.

B) get a free email account to get you through the transition and give it to everyone. Cancel your erols and sign up with one of the cheapies and try it out. Once you find a cheap isp that you can connect to reliably, then you can give out that email. This way you do not have to keep giving out a new email address every month while you are trying out new isps.

BTW, I did plan A when I left erols for high speed.

Hopefully someone else on the list can give you recommendations for a Mac friendly ISP, if you think you will need tech support. In my 6 years with erols dial up, once I got the settings working on my Mac (a powerbook 100 at that time), all of my tech support calls came back with the same answer: We (erols) are having a problem with our system. This means that I never needed tech support, except to tell me that the problems were on their end.

HTH,
Len
