allthough I am relatively new to the apple world, I have been dealing with
enterprise servers and such for awhile. Seems that the hard disk has always
been the largest barrier regarding high end performance. Whether the drive
is ultra ata, scsi ultra wide or whatever, the limiting factor is rarely
the bus it is attached to. I unsure of the exact specifications of the mac
mini's drive, but I do know that it is a 2.5 inch laptop variety. These
drives have always been a notch below the standard drives and seem to spin
slower, have less cache and longer seek times. I can understand this
tradeoff in a laptop, but in a desktop it doesn't make as much sense. I
know they did this because of size considerations and im not trying to
question their intent. I do think that it could become a performance
barrier in high end processing, which isn't what the mini was designed for.

All in all.... Im sure it doesn't matter worth a darn, and the little guy
is probably really fast anyways. If you were doing massive amounts of
transforms and other data intensive operations it might matter. But frankly
I use photoshop heavily on my lowly g3 700 ibook and It seems to work fine
for me.
