(1) drag item to the desktop temporarily, then change view area of folders to expose the desired area, drag from desktop to desired folder.
(2) have 2 copies of the primary folder open at the same time.
They both work, just not real elegant.

Since nested folders don't open separately in X, but just just keep opening up in the same window as you go deeper and deeper into the "nest," let's say you want to drag an item back into one of the previous folders (one or more levels back, or up). How can you do that, since the previous folders' windows are not visible?
