Not true from my experience. You can push the metal parts out of the jumper block and rearrange them to how you want them to be. I have made a chart for the beige with all possible settings, since I have been using one as my main computer for a few years now. If you want the chart just let me know. Also, your 300MHz ZIF may run at 333. Nobody ever says a fan is a good idea for overclocking G3s, but I say it is.
