I've seen a few. Worst was recently when I dropped my Firewire enclosure, a
wire just yanked it out of my hand. That's a failure all right. Truly trashed
the drive, which was full of backups that I didn't need, fortunately. No data
loss.

Interesting thing was, I bought a Western Digital 160 meg on sale to replace it
and I couldn't get the thing to format, though it worked fine on the ide bus in
the computer. Turned it in for a Maxtor 160 like the one I had trashed (much
cheaper on sale too) and it worked perfectly. The enclosure was bare when I
bought it, so I guess I was lucky to buy a compatible drive in the first place.

So I guess there are real issues about drive compatibility out there after all.
