One Mac to one printer you'll need a crossover.
Connecting to a router/switch and/or a switch and/or a hub you'll need a
straight.

All Macs do so. Clever isn't it??!!??
My DSL-modem and router/switch are always on. So any Mac switched off will
"awake in ethernet" after restarting.
