Hi, I am having problems trying to install the update 6.2.9 of Apple works. The computer is a QuickSilver 800, running 10.3.7 with 1 gig memory.
It starts the installation very fast running the thousands of files required, then when it reaches: Items remaining to install: 664, it stops and a dialog box appears with the following:
ERROR CREATING FILE. 1008:5,-5000 ACCESS DENIED ERROR.
When I close that box, another one appears with:
"YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH ACCESS PRIVILEGES FOR THIS INSTALLATION".
then the initial installation reappears as if I had not already run it.
How can I avoid this paradoxical behavior?
It could be a permissions problem on your disk, try running Disk Utility and repairing permissions on the disk you're trying to install to.
I had a similar installation problem with another program, End Note. Turns out it was trying to install something in an application (MS Word) that had been installed by another user.
Even though I was supposed to have admin rights it failed at this point.
Make sure you're installing as the same user who originally installed Appleworks, or delete Appleworks and resinstall, then upgrade, or go into Terminal and do a 'sudo chown -R <application folder name> <user name>'
In your case it'll be something like
sudo chown -R /Applications/AppleWorks.app hemac
Or whatever your short username is on your mac.
This gives you ownership of the appleworks folder and all the stuff inside it.
