Ok, the G3 400 b/w came yesterday with OS 9.0 and I installed everything I
needed there, I upgraded to 9.2.2, installed the firmware updates and all
software I needed before attempting to install OS X.
PROBLEM: When I attempted to install OS X in it, the machine said it couldn't
install because the disk was formatted in a format not supported by X and
that it needed to be formatted as extended. I had no idea until it was too late.
This Mac has a CD rom and one harddrive, nothing else (I got a SCSI external
which is not compatible). It has USB and FW but I've got no USB or Firewire
storage devices, just a SCSI 25 ext HD.
So I can't back up anything and I definitely dont want to install everything
again. I have an ethernet cable from my DSL cable, and my G3 333 has plenty
of room, can I connect them and transfer the whole drive so I dont have to
install everything again? Then when I am done with OS X, I just move the
contents to the drive once more.
I appreciate your help
Lili
I'm not real sure what you want to do Lili, but OSX can only be installed on a partition which was prepared using the install CD. in other words you can't do it in OS 9. I'd say if there's something on the drive you want to put OSX on that you want to keep, then you need to back that up to wherever you wish to save it to. Once you have that all sorted out, boot the computer using the Install CD and go directly to the drive utilities and repartition the drive. Be sure to choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for the partition where you plan to install OSX. If you plan to run OS9 on this drive, then you need to be sure the drivers for OS9 box is checked. When I did mine, I put a smaller (5 Gb) partition on the drive and installed 9.22 there. Once you have the drive partitioned and setup like you want it, then you can go back and install OSX, etc.
