Forced obsolescence is a valid business strategy. One which Apple has used many times in the past. Sometimes this parallels some technology shift, but not always. Everyones use case is different, which in the end determines if a hardware or software change is of value for their use case.
Just because a change isn't of value to you, doesn't mean its not of value to others. Obviously the reverse of that is also true.
