This comment crosses my personal politeness line. I would not speak to someone like that in person, nor will I on this list.

Normally, I would not express myself that way either. I have made my share of attempts to be helpful as well as civil on this and other lists. I believe in users helping users. In the past I have even volunteered to be that late-night guy to call with problems for two different users groups I used to belong to. However, the incessant carrying-on about "OS X doesn't do ___" or "OS X is crap because it ___" had just gone beyond the limits of tolerance given the lack of basic knowledge being demonstrated. And there have been plenty of other testy comments from other people on the list to the effect of "enough is enough" regarding the "Tribute" threads.

So, my commentary was a combination or practical advice with a "get real" attitude. It was that or unsub from the list, because the signal to noise ratio was falling pretty darn low. I mean, hell, why not start a Windows versus Mac mud fight on the list, or a Vi versus EMACS fight? Those would be just about as useful at this point. If I am banned for posting that message before I read the latest list nanny rant, so be it. But I hope for the list's sake that the "Tribute" threads get cut off.

I have exactly the same feeling you have, and read the nanny's post after I made several posts today.

I'm all about helping users, but I get tired of the incessant complaining of OS 9 users. Apple has made it clear that OS X is the future of the Mac platform, and their users need to just move forward. (If not now, at their next hardware purchase, which won't have to cost much now that the mini has been released.) At the 10.3 level, OS X really is usable for everyone running a B&W G3 or greater... as Bruce pointed out, there's no need for OS 9 except for the rare unported application.

But for myself, I have no reason to complain: OS X is simply the latest iteration of what has for 15 years been my operating system of choice: NeXTSTEP.
