Thanks! Great info. I was looking to put together the cheapest but best deal of a mac i could into a spare ATX case I have around, and to me it looks like a rev 1 B&W with a g3 processor would probably be the best bang for the buck (as I can't seem to find any yikes processors around)...is a B&W the best bang for my (small) buck? Thanks again.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <<<Without knowing what specific G4 module you have (or are considering), we can't really say if it will work in a B&W. You can use most G4 ZIF modules in a B&W, provided you first apply a firmware update to the machine, set appropriate jumpers on the logic board (and, possibly, the module), and can properly replace the heat sink with just the right amount of thermal paste before dropping the module into the socket. You'll also want to obtain cache enabling software to take advantage of the speed of the G4. ZIF modules will fit into the beige and B&W G3 and the G4 PCI graphics (Yikes) logic boards, but no other models. Likewise, only G4 modules from the Yikes G4 machines can be used in a B&W. It's not necessarily a bad idea to buy a rev 1 logic board, provided the price is right. You can get an entire machine for as little as 65 USD. Also, be aware that most replacement logic boards don't include the FireWire module.>>> -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
