Here's Apple's page about crossover cables: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42717 The eMac is tricky, some models have an autosensing port, and some do not. The way to tell seems to be the graphics chip in the eMac, one's with ATI Radeon graphics and later (The 800 MHz, 1GHz, 1.25GHz models with the 133 or 166MHz bus) have the autosensing port, and can use any Ethernet cable, the earliest eMacs with nVidia GeForce graphics (700 or 800 MHz with the 100MHz bus) do not have an autosensing port, and do need a crossover cable.
