I have a G4 AGP Sawtooth with a Dual 500 processor. My question is:
What is faster than this. Would a single processor 733 mh be faster
and better. Where can I get a comparison list of speeds of different
processors for this model

I have an old Sawtooth that had a 450MHz G4 in it, I havem since then upgraded to a single 1.4GHz G4, but in any case I'm also running the ATI Radeon 9800Pro w/ 128MB memory and I'm "Dual Heading" That is: I have two displays on one card. The system runs slicker than snot, I use the system for web browsing and the ocasonal e-mail. From time to time I'll play WarCraft III or "America's Army" But I have a XBOX, PS2, GameCube Etc.. for really playing games.I like the quick responses the video card that I chose gives me. The one thing I hate about slow computers is the slow responses to basic GUI ussage. It's True that the Sawtooth only has a 2X AGP slot, but the particular Graphics card that I selected is compatible with 2X / 4X. I've actually gone from an eMac to this Sawtooh as an upgrade! And indeed it is! although the eMac has a faster graphics bus, it has a slower GPU, and less availible dedicated video memory. That and you include the fact that I was "Dual Heading" on the mac 32MB / 2 Screens =16MB Each versus 128MB / 2 Screens = 64MB Each So I've quadrupled my availible memory per screen. I unfortunetly did not upgrade first the video card, and then the processor, otherwise I would be able to tell you if that would, by itself make a big difference. But I have a 500MHz B&W Tower that is running ATI's 9200 Mac Eddition w/ 128MB video memory. and I can tell you that system runs pretty quick! If I put in a faster processor it would probably feel just like my G4. Lots of people will say that the cost of processor upgrades versus the cost of a Mac Mini are not worth it. People will say that a Mac Mini is better. They are wrong. You can (potentially) upgrade a Sawtooth to a dual 1.8GHz G4 load it up with 2GB of RAM, run the ATI Radeon 9800 and you'll have a system that will make even a stock MDD run for the hills. let alone a Mac Mini. I had an eMac, and I benched it against my PowerMac, and my PowerMac came out on top, so I got rid of my eMac.and seeing as how the Mac Mini is no more than an eMac w/o a monitor I know it would preform the same. I have a friend who has a dual 1.8GHz Sawtooth and 1.5GB RAM, and the Radeon 9800. He plays DOOM3 just fine with that system.

Just my Two bits.
