Thanks again Mary. The 10.2 installer disk will not work at all (goes to
the green screen instead of launching), but I am able to launch the 10.3
updater disk, and then I can do as you suggest above and can repair
permissions with Disk Utility, but it doesn't fix anything. I still cannot
boot into 10 afterward.

Am stuck in 9 full time now, but at least I can communicate with you guys,
which is a comfort. I feel like I'm not alone.

But I am beginning to feel like I'm running out of options here. Will I
ever see the OS-X desktop again, or is it gone forever?
