This configuration should definately work. One phrase
you used that worries me is you said "cross over"
cable. A cross over cable is only used to connect one
Mac directly to another Mac. They are not to be used
for a network connection. You will need a standard
ethernet cable. Once inserted the Macs should be setup
to use DHCP and that's pretty much it...
