Tim, do you mean in OS 10 System Prefs? If that is the case, yes, it shows that "Built in Ethernet" is active and gives me all the address 152.168.2.85. In the WS OS 9 in TCP/IP control panel it gives me similar parameters (with its own 15.168.2.51 address)
When in OS 10 I go to "GO" and type the PB address it will not find it and the same happens from the PB when I give the QS address.

I have a small network at home, it has a cable modem, one PC which has the program that controls the router and 2 macs one runnig 10.3.8 and a PB with 9.1 All can get into the internet, but I cant get the two macs to "talk" to each other, I have File Sharing checked in both, but when I try to get to connect to each other (by using the Go feature in 10 or the Network Browser in 9.1, I get dialogs telling me that "it can't be found"
What is the proper procedure and settings in both computers?
When you go into you 'Network' prefs, does it show up as being connected via ethernet?

If those numbers are accurate and not a mistype, then your IP addresses are not in the same domain. Most people using a network and a router let the DHCP client in the router assign the IP addresses for your network. Those are usually in the range of 192.168.0.x for home networks, where x is set to 1 for the router itself with the other computers on the LAN set to 100-255. This is just the order of things and that way there is no conflict with other machines on the internet itself. Try resetting the numbers to 192.168.0.100 for one of your computers and 192.168.0.101 for the other computer and then they should be able to see each other.
