Networking the two isn't usually difficult at all. I've set up a network with a G4 running Panther and an older Power Mac 5500 (os 9.1) where the two can share files just fine. I don't know about 8.1 but I can't foresee any problems.
If you're running OS X.2.8 on your B&W, you should be able to share your internet connection to the Beige. I've never personally gotten it to work 100% of the time, but the basic procedure is easy.
Sorry to say that I don't know the procedure for OS 8.1 offhand, since I've never used it. In OS X.2.8, it's pretty easy. Just go into System Preferences and select Sharing. You should see all of the applicable options (Internet, File Sharing, Printer Sharing) in that window. Feel free to contact me if you need more help.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]--Original Message-- Hi all, Quite new here so, forgive the basic questions please: 1) I have just acquired a beige g3 running OS8.1. Is it possible to network the beige with my B&W G3 running OS X 10.2.8? The B&W also has OS 9.2.2 and OS 8.5. Do both computers need to have similar OS's to network? How do I go about setting up the network? 2) Can the two computers share a dial-up connection? Can both computers be connected to the internet simultaneously? Thanks in advance, Les
