Yes and no, and this is the 'secret' weapon OS X has over Windows.
Yes you are the admin user on the machine, but no, that doesn't mean
you can just do anything you want, willy-nilly. While this make it
difficult for users on occasion, this also make it difficult for
viruses and spyware.
In Windows your admin privileges are assumed; in OS X they're
allowed. HUGE difference.
Right-click on 'Rads_Thinkpad' in the Network Browser, it'll tell you
it's in /Network.
Open terminal, type: (hitting enter after each command.)
cd /Network
now type
ls -l
You should see something like:
[SwampThing:~] johnson% cd /Network
[SwampThing:/Network] johnson% ls -l
total 2
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 512 Jun 1 06:27 Library -> /automount/
Library
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 512 Jun 1 06:27 Servers -> /automount/
Servers
These are 'symbolic links', Unix' version of Aliases. Now in my case
Library is also missing, and I got the same error you did.
to remove that alias, type:
sudo rm Library
(or Rads_Thinkpad in your case) You'll be asked to enter your
password, and it'll be deleted.
Now it's gone from the Network window.
Unless you have a third party Appletalk stack installed on that
ThinkPad like PC MacLan, you need to use smb to connect. use smb://
the.ip.address not afp:// The 'Appletalk' network protocol you can
install out of Windows is useless.
Also if you set the workgroup name to be the same as the PC's in /
Applications/Utilities/Directory Access (configure SMB to enter it)
you can browse to the Thinkpads, as well.
