Hello Colleagues,
Earlier I wrote asking for help with a bootup issue on my G3.
It turned out to be a hard drive, where one of the Philips controller chips actually exploded! (a first for me!). It was the OS 9 drive, which left the
OS X drive still useable.

Alas, the incident appears to have taken the motherboard ATA controller with
it.
Fortunately, I have a spare bus on my Sonnet ATA-133 controller. So, the OS X drive is configured as master on Bus 2 of the Sonnet card. When I boot off
of a CD (OS 9), the drive mounts fine. Now, my problem..

OS X refuses to boot off of the ATA card. It *should* but doesn't. Has
anybody gotten their OS X boot drive to boot off of a controller card (and
not the motherboard)? Surely this should be a common configuration!

Thank you for your consideration,
Dana

Sorry about the explosion Dana, but glad you have it working somewhat again. I have not gotten around to trying the ATA card I bought from Lou Wilson some time ago, but I too would be interested in the answer as I was planning to boot from a drive connected to this card.

Just a message from Doug...
