I know you are out there, somewhere, and I need your help. I'm looking to build a small circuit of some kind which will sense whether AC is present or not and if it goes off, then a program which will shut down my beige G3 fileserver after say, five minutes or so. I know there are newer UPS systems designed for this purpose, but my APC UPS is but a couple of years old and I just bought a brand new battery for it!

Are you sure your APC UPS doesn't support this? All of the ones we've gotten recently, even the el-cheapo ones, have supported this. Their latest ones are USB-based, and I know they have mac support.

What is the model you have?

It's an Office 280. Might be slightly older than I said, not sure. Easy to lose track of time when you're having fun Bruce, you know how it is! I can't really believe this setup doesn't exist as UPS systems have been around for a long time. Perhaps it was something done on a situation basis and not marketed. Just seems to be common sense to me.

Just a message from Doug...
