USB for this process, but my old beige G3 doesn't have a USB card in
it, so I figured the serial port would work for the same purpose. So
how about it, anybody up to the challenge?

What port do you have on the APC? USB or PC serial? They used to have
a 9
pin PC serial cord, with a Mac DIN serial plug on the other end of
their
cords for my old APC unit... My current one uses USB.
I still have the old cord, if you're interested.

Nope, mine doesn't have any ports on it at all. As I told Bruce, it's
an Office 280 model and it might be slightly older than I previously
thought.
