I have no direct experience with the firmware patching program, but I
am guessing that it is a Classic application, that is why it opens in

doing anything this low level on my computer.
What it is patching is the firmware of the Mac. This is, in simplified
terms, memory on the motherboard that tells the OS what hardware to
expect. Since it is in the hardware of the motherboard, and not
writing to a portion of the HD
Are you saying I have to install this patch before I take OS 9 and
Classic away in order to get full access to maximum RAM when running
under OSX?
Makes no sense to me. See, when I install Tiger, it will be Tiger-only.
No Classic, no OS 9 on the HD at all. I'm done with it.
Does this mean I can't use maximum RAM memory under an OS 10.4 - only
system unless I first install the patch in OS 9 under Classic? I find
that very strange. As indicated by the system profiler, it already
knows what machine it's on, therefore I'd think it would automatically
update the firmware upon installation. IOW, I would think that any new
version of OSX should set up the firmware properly without needing a
patch.
So, I guess my question is: Is anyone on this list using a Sawtooth AGP
graphics machine under OX that did _not_ run the patch under OS 9? If
so, what is status of maximum memory access now?
All the best,
Ken N.
