Sounds like you were running the mic into the iMic.
Umm, well, that's what it's for, right? Hence the name :-D
Probably work better with
an outboard mic preamp that you have some control over, feeding line
level to
the iMic.
But why? What about the simplicity of using the device, if it works
well enough for the user? It's just that it isn't good enough for _my_
purposes, is all; could be fine for others.
I'm using my G-4 Digital Audio to edit video in Final Cut Express, and
I'm doing voiceovers to add narration to the video. After plugging
various Radio Shack mikes into my Griffin iMic gave poor results, I
bought a little Logitech mike attached to a headset from CompUSA that
plugs into a USB port on the computer (it cost around $50). This USB
mike seems to do all right for recording speech, but the S's and P's
in spoken words come out a little harsh sometimes. Precisely where you
point the mike and how far from your mouth it is while speaking seem to
be critical factors in getting a good voice recording. I'll find a good
position for it during one session, getting good clear recordings, and
then drive myself crazy in a subsequent session trying to find the same
position, while the S's and other sounds are too harsh to tolerate and
require repeated tries.
Final Cut has "de-esser" and "de-popper" filters to cut down on some of
the harsh sounds in voice recordings after you've made them, but it
sure would be nice I had a mike that gave good results every time and
made such filters unnecessary. Can anyone recommend a good mike for
voice recordings?
