Hi, Richard, Turning your machine off depends on how often you use it. There is some controversy over this issue, with some believing the machine should never be turned off. I think common sense can dictate. Knowing that there is a certain amount of stress put on the machine every time it is turned on needs to be balanced with the amount of stress the machine is put through by setting and running for prolonged periods. I shut down my machine at the end of the day, because it might be a few days to a week or more before I start it up again. Also, I have Tech tools installed. Whenever I shut down, the program goes through the machine and checks it for virus and other problems. One more thing to consider, is that no one can hack into your machine if it is shut down. This is assuming you have always-on wide band access. So the question of whether or not to shut down can come down to personal preference, depending on your circumstances. I am glad to see that you have bought more Ram. Can't have too much Ram. And OS 9 is long from dead. I have a G3 running OS 9.2, and I have a G4 running OS X. I guess OS X is OK, but for someone like myself with all kinds of OS 9 software and SCSI scanners and CD burners and printers, it doesn't make sense to anyone but Apple for me to switch over exclusively. 74 is sounding ever more younger to me. I am 67, and still working a full time job. Don't know if I will ever retire. One more thing. I hope you have gone on line to Microsoft and gotten the latest Internet Explorer browser for the Mac. It's free, and it will make your surfing much more easier. Take care, Kathi -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
