A few weeks ago I bought a used G4/533 Digital Audio. This evening
I had shut down the system to install a new 512MB RAM chip and a
small hard drive on which I planned to install OS 9.2. When I
started back up I got a message from DiskWarrior announcing a
problem with the main drive that said something to the effect that
my hard drive was about to fail.
Needless to say, I have not done any backups of this system. I
don't even have all my software installed and configured to my
liking yet!
What is the quickest safest way to copy my system over to another
drive? I have used Carbon Copy Cloner in the past, and it looks
like there is a Tiger version now.
The drive is a 40GB Maxtor. I am running OS 10.4.2. The system is
currently shut down.
If you're not afraid of using Terminal, psync is pretty darn fast. A
quick google or versiontracker search should turn it up for you. I
don't recall if I had to install anything else to get this to work -
if so, it was small.
CCC is essentially a pretty face on rsync, from what I've heard.
mirroring a drive using psync
sudo -s
/usr/local/bin
perl psync -d /Volumes/Sourcedrive /Volumes/BackupDrive
