The big thing you have to watch out for re NEC CD & DVD burners is that they are often NOT Mac Bootable. A good reason to avoid NEC for Mac, unless the drive description says otherwise. Patchburn helps in the burn process for unsupported drives but I don't think it helps at all during boot up.
