True. I do have slower DSL. Cable is available, but I have noticed that , with videophone users who have cable, the picture on the video phone is not as good. So will be patient for the higher DSL.

I live in the burs of Des Moines, Iowa. No mountains here to block reception of anything. Qwest is less than 3 miles from here. But they still will not upgrade to the higher 1.5 DSL and seem they do not have the intention of doing so in the near future. But in Des Moines, where it is all sprawled out thy have the higher 1.5 DSL. Go figure? But cable is not an option right now so I am hanging in there and maybe, just maybe they will upgrade eventually.

The downside of busting up Ma Bell in the 70s/80s?

Businesses are more concerned about bottom line and less about civic duty these days. At least you can get cable, right? And slower DSL?

I'd give just about anything to be able to get DSL! From anybody................ I'm 5 miles outside of town, so affordable broadband is only a dream for me, and probably will remain so for the foreseeable future. I keep praying for IP over powerlines to finally become a reality, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yup, the blight of living in country charm. We're 1500' from Comcast and 2500' from optical Verizon cable (Not today honey, you have a modem ;). Clearwire is moving to within 35 miles of here (Bellingham WA) but our cell phone reception here is marginal at best (damn beautiful mountains!). I'm on the verge of bending over for satellite but the thought of $700 up front and $60-70 a month, plus the lag time up to the satellite and back, and poor upload speeds, has given me pause...
