I just want to add, OS X seems to automatically defrag the harddrive.  This 
alone will keep the machine running reliably with OS X over OS 9 (unless you 
are religious about defragging your drives every month or so).  if you can try 
OS X Id say go with that.  OS 9 is losing support and in my experience and 
everyone Ive talked, it is more reliable also.  if all you have is OS 9, its 
still 
a fine OS.
