I do the same with a "no fee" checking account. Totally separate
account. Totally separate debit card number. I can transfer funds to
the account from my other accounts online. I keep zero funds in the
"paypal" checking account until I buy something, at which point I
make an online transfer via my financial institution's web interface.
It's worked well for me so far and feels more secure than putting my
main accounts out there on the line.
