Okay, let's say I've got an office of iMacs (strawberry ;^D) running
OS 8 and an ImageWriter II. What's the easiest way to get 'em
talking? Pretty obviously not the USB port on the iMacs or the
serial port on the IW2... Do I want an IW2 network card? A stealth
port for an iMac (no modem needed)? The less dough, the better.
Thanks!

Hmmm. Easiest? Not sure how to quantify that, but with no
serial ports to go with the ImageWriter, you will need some
hardware. Probably the easiest and cheapest would be to dig up
an old Mac such as a 7200 (probably find one for close to free)
and use it as a "shared printer" host. Plug the ImageWriter into
that machine, connect the 7200 to your ethernet network, enable
printer sharing, make sure the ImageWriter is available in the
Chooser of each of the iMacs, and go to work.

I have a USB to apple serial adapter that works fine under OS X with the
gimp-print drivers for my LW Select 360 (though I've pretty much
abandoned it lately)...? I don't know where it came from and it's
unmarked but I know they exist, and I don't recall it being particularly
expensive.
