<shrug> Every time I look at www.bensbargains.net and see a sweet
deal on a Samsung laser, the Australian Samsung site has had OS X
drivers for it. I did mention this in the post and that who knows if
that will continue given they will not release them on the US site.
Although I'm using CUPSd to print to the samsung via the Samsung-gdi
OSS drivers (www.linuxprinting.org) and all is well. That's part of
why I bought my basic Samsung ML-1740; $55 shipped, and OSS drivers,
so I'll be able to keep it going for future versions of X.
Brother seems like they mean it, though; and their AIO *laser* models
got mainly great reviews from a tech standpoint. I won't buy an
inkjet again for regular printing. Sure I have one around for the
occasional color, but they rip you off so badly on the cartridges,
and I print minimal color, it's a better deal to buy a new printer
each year for xmas cards, and if the carts run out during the year,
take it to the goodwill and get another. I have a small dye-sub for
printing special photos, no fading, no smearing, no color shift over
time, much better use of money.
IMO.
For reference, some great prices on refurb Brother AIO's from the
last couple weeks.

It does sound like the AIO laser models count pages and then tell you
when toner needs switched; so they can now be as much of a pain as
inkjets in that regard.
