I too thought you had a B&W by now, Yersinia... Must have been
discussed at some point?
Anyway, you are maybe right about problems with OSX on a Beige. Though
a friend of mine runs Panther (10.3) just fine on his Beige Desktop G3.
Well, he can't print to his ancient LaserWriter, but then he drops back
into Classic or a real 9-boot.
I believe you will run into much worse driver problems with any Linux
distro, than OSX ever had. But, you might have fun, I haven't tried
them.
But.... couldn't you just put the terribly, horribly dangerous OSX on
that separate HD of yours, for experimenting? Seems to me a more
relevant training than any Linux? Cause sooner or later you will have
to switch to X anyway, as the old Macs die away (...or switch to the
Dark Side, but of course then everything will be worse than any Mac
setup!!)
