Happy New Year,
Today, I have made my NYR (New Year’s Resolution), and it does not
include any Macintoshes, whatsoever. Today out of frustration, I
have decided to give up on Macs.. Taking the advice of the members
of the PCI PowerMacs, and G3 lists, I managed to update these
machines – although not easily, and keep them current. Within the
last three months, these machines have just decided to go their own
route, and do some of the dumbest things. Too numerous to mention,
the problems are frustrating nonetheless. What is particularly
frustrating is that an OS such as 9.x has been basically forgotten by
the computing industry, not to mention Apple. I have one Win95
machine that I am able to use hardware and sotfware slated only for
WinXP machines without any problem. My recent upgrades for the Macs
included G4 700 and 600mhz processors, Two combo USB, FW, and ATA1000
cards, 4 HDs, and over 2GB of additional memory over the past two
years. These hardware purchases were made IAW manufactu!
rers recommendations as well as the advice of members of this list
group. After spending almost $2.5K on these upgrades and not to
mention hardware (I “had” an 8600, 9600, and two G3 mini-towers), I
decided it is not economically feasible to keep “throwing” money at
these machines with the constant problems these Macs have returned as
a result of the upgrades. In comparison have spend less than $300 -
total on my PCs over the last year! Try and update one of my Macs
with something “current” supposedly, and all hell breaks loose. Well
as of today, that hell has come to a head. In closing, if one good
thing did come of my experience with these PCI Macs, it was that I
managed to teach myself basic video editing with iMovie. Oh, and
that brings another upgrade fiasco to mind. My upgrade to Adobe
Premier – it ran like sh** on all previously mentioned Macs. Now, I
have all this beige plastic, and green expansion innards, that I
cannot even donate, because its’ performance is so!
unpredictable. Better I trash it all! Despite my harsh
experiences, those dedicated to using these “ancient” Mac have my
best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Well, have fun dealing with this:

similar. Our Macs won't be bothered by it.
