Of course logically one would say the integration of both, but the OS does play a big part of why it's a Mac... it sure ain't Winbloze or DOS! I got interested in Macs because of the OS not so much of the hardware. Later as I learned more about hardware, then I became interested in learning how to tweak it to run faster. In the end it was still the OS that helped me complete projects. I just knew that at least I wasn't working in DOS or Winbloze 3.1.
Imagine how we vintage mac owners felt when Apple went to the PPC chip. Just because Apple switched to Intel doesn't mean they switched to Winbloze. It's not the P4's that are causing the viruses and crashes and worms, it's Winbloze. Think about the changes in the Mac since the G3 (and some changes came earlier) i.e. EIDE, USB, PCI, AGP, VGA, etc. Changes which were mostly on PC's already. I was happy that now I can actually afford a larger monitor and I could go to my local PC store and choose any of the VGA monitors. IBM couldn't deliver what Apple wanted so Apple needed to look for a way to survive. Once you press that power button and see Tiger or Lion or Bobcat or Tabby or whatever the next OS X will be called, it's still OS X. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
