Hi Fernando,

I don't think Apple switched to x86 for a whim, they must have had very good reasons. One was that IBM apparently was going to charge Apple for the development of the next generations of chips, one thing that Apple could hardly afford.

Secondly Freescale had no intention to keep producing G4s for desktops, but only embedded chips, and IBM put little efforts into low power G5s.

Moreover x86 is bad if you use those old instructions there, Apple can just write software for the good ones.

Cheers
Andrea

P.S.: BTW, IBM promised a 3GHz G5 for 18 months ago, where is it?

If the changing of the processor means that you should sound the

the REAL Mac processor, the 68000 to 68040 in favor of the Power PC

were no longer Macs.

It was not the same.
The PowerPC is better than the 68K, the x86 is worser than the PowerPC.
Even if it runs faster, the architecture is worser.
Suppose that you can build a Ford T engine (vintage 1924) that turns at 9000 rpm, it will still be a Ford T engine, not a Porsche one
