Some hard drives are better than others, and Apple uses the better ones.
I don't agree with that. I see the same failure rates from the
drives Apple has "selected" with those in PCs or bought off the shelf.
Apple uses the better memory,
True. Because they don't use the generic memory controllers, they
end up requiring the higher-end ram chips -- which in turn does seem
to mean higher DIMM reliability. This is, IMO, a Very Good Thing.
video cards, power supplies, etc.
hum. Failure rates of video cards and power supplies seem to be on
par with PCs. Apple's NICs seem to be more sturdy tho.
And guess what, Apple is working with Intel on their motherboards,
and Intel makes the highest quality motherboards.
We'll see.
You guys see the benchmarks? The Mac Book Pro Core Duo 1.83GHz is
4x as fast as a 1.67GHz G4. In other words, in a fair comparison
between a 1.67GHz G4 and a 1.67GHz SINGLE core Centrino the Centrino
BLOWS THE G4 AWAY!!!
4x? Please cite url?
I'm still perusing the various press released, but have yet to find
any actual tech reports.
Apple says: http://www.apple.com/imac/intelcoreduo.html
They tested a dual processor machine against a single processor
machine, using a multi-processor based benchmark. If it hadn't shown
the new machine to be x times faster, it would be very worrysome.
I look forward to seeing full benchmarks, run by 3rd parties.
