Greetings!
Now that is an interesting question. I have a couple machines not
"os X native" in which I run OS X on a daily basis.
The first one, a B&W G3/400. It has a 40Gb HDD, and OS X resides on
a 20Gb partition. Was installed without any frills.
The second machine is a rev. D iMac 333. It has a 15Gb HDD and OS X
resides on a 10Gb partition. Was installed without any frills.
First, both of those systems are fully supported by Apple and OS X,
they certainly ARE OS X Native. OS X native does not mean the first
came with OS X, but that Apple supports OS X on them, there is no
need for something like XPostFacto needed to install it.
Heck, both are *still* supported, as they both have FireWire, you can
install 10.4 on 'em. (Dead certain about the B&W, 90% sure about the
iMac.)
Second, the 8GB limit ONLY applies to "Old World" ROM systems: The
Beige G3's, the first two revs of iMac, and the WallStreet Powerbook.
All subsequent Macs were 'New World" ROM's and did not have the 8GB
limit. No previous Macs were ever supported by Apple for OS X.
The limit also only applies to drives on the internal IDE bus, the
limit can be gotten around by using a third-party disk controller,
and the installer *tells* you this when you try to choose a disk to
install to.
