Hey I use X-Plane too. Anyway, whats all this talk of quartz and core

Look in System Profiler under the Graphics/Displays.
It will have two lines
Core Image: Supported|Not Supported
Quartz Extreme: Supported|Not Supported
Both are mechanisms whereby some display processing is offloaded from
the CPU onto the video card.

QE has been around since 10.2, Core Image is new, in 10.4.
John Siracusa has an excellent description of both technologies
starting here:
<http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/13>
QE requires a 32 MB AGP Video Card, CI requires a programmable GPU,
Apple's web site lists the following as supported:
Core Image-capable graphics cards include:
* ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
* ATI Radeon 9550, 9650, 9600, 9600 XT, 9800 XT, X800 XT
* nVidia GeForce FX Go 5200
* nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
* nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL, 6800 GT DDL
Your system supports QE, but not CI.
I don't know how this ties in with X-Plane, because I don't know how
X-plane does it's graphics.
