Is it a rev 1 or rev 2 B&W? My rev 1 B &W drove me crazy until I switch 
switched the ATA/IDE buses. If you have access to a longer ATA internal ribbon 
cable try using the other IDE bus for the HD and see what happens. Just a long 
shot  --glen (digest)
