I'd remove and reseat  the SCSI controller card. Perhaps it was jarred  when 
you installed the new drive. Also check all your SCSI cable connections as Mel 
suggested.

What SCSI card and OS are you using? My Sawtoorh has no problems with a pair of 
18 GB SCSI Seagate drives attached to an ATTO card. This computer uses OS 9 for 
most work but works fine under 10.3.9 as when needed.
