The /System/Library/Extensions folder of 10.5.5 which was installed
on a PPC Mac has THE VERY SAME CONTENTS as the same folder on an Intel.

Now, the PPC boot disk must be APM (Apple Partition Map), whereas the
Intel must be GPT (APM is OK for data-only devices on an Intel Mac)
[ * ] .

And, the updates come in three flavors (examples): 10.5.5 Update for
PPC only, 10.5.5 Update for Intel only and 10.5.5 Combo Update for
any platform.

The install disk is identical between the two platforms. In my case
it is a 10.5.1 installer, and it works on any G4, G5 or Intel.

And, the "loader" (a hidden component of MacOS) is prepared to accept:

1) PPC 32-bit,

2) PPC 64-bit,

3) Intel 32-bit, and

4) Intel 64-bit,

and to use the correct instantiation of the object code.

I can even use the very same "street legal" MacOS 10.5.1 DVD to
install it on a Hackintosh, provided it meets the minimum
requirements for a 32- or 64-bit Intel Mac.

And, I have done so.

[ * ] MBR works for most Intel boards which cannot handle GPT, which
is a surprising number of Hackintoshes.
