The Apple Tech person is wrong. I just helped a friend do this exact thing. His issue was pretty much identical. He owned a G3 iBook with no DVD, and had a 10.4 DVD but his only other Mac was an Intel MacBook Pro. He placed the DVD into the MacBook Pro and restarted it holding the "T" key for Target Disk Mode. He then connected the MacBook to the shutdown iBook with a Firewire cable and started the iBook holding the "Option" key to get the bootable devices selection. The DVD was shown in the Option key selection, and he booted it normally on the PPC iBook from the DVD unit in the Intel MacBook Pro. Tiger 10.4 installed normally onto the PPC G3 iBook. You do the same. Place the DVD into the optical drive of the Intel iMac. Shutdown and restart holding the "T" key until you see the Firewire symbol on the iMac display. With the G4 shutdown, attach it to the iMac via a Firewire cable and start the G4 holding the Option key. Select the 10.4 DVD as the startup device and install normally. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
