Show your hidden files and folders. You can use OnyX to do that (go
to versiontracker.com- get panther version)... Look to see if you
have any "core" files to delete. Moreover, in general, with UNIX
files hidden, you can't just simply add up the visible files to get
total disk usage.

A good way to find large files is to temporarily change view options
in all folders in LIST view to "calculate all sizes"- then wait as
this slowly happens and do a descending sort on the SIZE column in
order to see your largest file folders and files.

Usually my largest waste-of-space files are in the Adobe folder.
Especially the thumbnail database for Bridge.

Check the Adobe folder in Application support for an overgrown camera
raw database or a temp file that didn't go away when Photoshop closed
down.

Try to store your photos on an external drive and if you use Adobe
bridge to view them, make sure that you point the camera raw database
off the main drive or de-centralize it.

If you are low on disk space while Photoshop is open, but get it back
when you close Photoshop, then try moving the Photoshop "scratch disk"
to an external drive.

Try to store your iTunes music library on an external drive.

Hope these basic starting ideas help.
