For under $500 you can pick up a dual 1.8 GHz G5. They are air cooled,
don't have the coolant leak problems of later models. The bus speed is
about 6x faster than any G4, they can hold up to 5 hard drives and 4
GB RAM, the components are easy to get to. They have much better
cooling than G4s. My loaded G5 runs 35-45 degrees while my stock G4
MDD runs at 60 degrees. Add up what you would spend buying and
upgrading a DA and compare that to the cost of a G5.
I'm not sure about the reply "avoid the MDD". I have a MDD 1 GHz DP.
Compared to a DA the RAM is much cheaper than low density PC 133, the
same video cards and PCI cards work. If you get a MDD dual 1, 1.25, or
1.42 GHz you won't need to upgrade the processor; it would be far less
expensive than upgrading a DA.
