Since I'm not certain of the 'robustness' of the Firewire interface  
in the first place, I don't think I like the idea of 'Hot Plugging'  
the FW cable.    Just my foible.

Besides, doing as you suggest completely defeats the 'Master Power  
Switch' [for EVERYTHING but the room lights. Both HOT & Neutral  
switched, Ground does go through to plugs.]
