As long as you're doing a file-based (not block level) clone, the 
destination volume needs to be only big enough to hold the data on 
the source.

Bigger is better, of course, so you can let the incrementals 
accumulate in the _CCC folders for quite a while.  (the more ancient 
time machine effect).
