I bought a HP 940d CD/DVD burner to replace the dead optical drive
when I got my 2.7ghz G5 PowerMac. I installed it and it worked fine
for a year or so. When I installed the drive I removed the bezel from
the end of the tray, which allows the tray to push the door on the
case of the G5 open when the tray comes out of the drive. The G5 case
door opens with very little force, so I don't think that is part of
the problem.

Now the drive door won't open unless there is a disk in the tray. If
the drive tray is closed without a disc, when the eject button is
pressed the drive whirrs and clunks but the tray doesn't move out. To
open the drive I have to stick a paper clip in the eject hole and
force the tray out and the drive seems to fight being opened. If there
is a disc in the tray everything works fine when you eject a disc. I
am at a loss for how the presence of a disc effects the function of
ejecting the disc tray on the drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Leo
