An external HD should be an external HD. The manufacturer may just not want to answer any tech support questions about older OSs or may not have a Low End Mac lying around to test it, therefore, they do not "support" it. I would plug in the external HD and give it a shot. > > I need to transfer files into this new mac mini. > would a direct ethernet computer to computer connection work? Worse case, you would need a crossover ethernet cable to connect the 2. > AND: > is it possible to partition an external hard drive to mount os 9 and > panther and Leopard????? > Want to still be able to use some of my old apps that won't be > compatible with the mac mini/leopard. I assume you are going to keep the Yikes around, since the new mini (an intel chip I assume) will not run OS 9 apps without a lot of work installing sheepshaver or a similar app. The Yikes does not natively boot from firewire or USB, so using an external HD for booting will also involve some work. I think the way to go would be to leave Tiger/10.4 on the Yikes and get a small ethernet hub (less than $10 shipped off the swap list) and use a Remote Desktop application to control the Yikes from the Mini.
