The Mini is new enough that it "should" be able to auto-configure for a "normal" ethernet cable, and since it's unlikely you own a crossover cable you can try with a normal cable first. > what is the best external hard drive to use that is compatible with > both computers that can be used as a backup drive as well as to > transfer files. For certain Firewire is faster and more reliable than USB. Your PCI graphics only has USB 1 and will make USB transfers very slow. > AND: > is it possible to partition an external hard drive to mount os 9 and > panther and Leopard????? No need to partition the HD, it should mount in all three OS without needing separate partitions. Normally external HDs come pre-formatted to PC FAT32 file system. This file system should mount and be useable in all the Mac OS versions, however, if you're Mac specific you may want to reformat the HD to Mac HFS+ with OS 9 drivers installed which will also mount on all three, however will NOT mount on PCs without additional software. > Want to still be able to use some of my old apps that won't be > compatible with the mac mini/leopard. Only on the Yikes, the Intel Mini can't run old OS 9 apps without something like SheepShaver. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
