I had a similar issue once. I had to reindex Spotlight completely. I opened Spotlight System Preference and under the Privacy tab using the "+" button added my entire HD to the excluded category. Then I highlighted the HD and used the "-" button to un-exclude it and it started reindexing, which took a long time.
